Mr. Amitra Sudan Chakrabortty is the “Founder cum Managing Trustee” of MANAB. His grassroot human rights activism has helped him to realize that motivating, involving and organizing every individual, association and organ of the society is indispensible to help them understand the need and importance of human rights in their life and thereby to take step/s to respect them. He has started his human rights activism in the year 2004 and the aforesaid realization led him to found MANAB in the year 2009 when he was serving in a state private university as a full time Lecturer in Law. He feels privileged for getting opportunity to study law which has exposed him to the field of human rights study and started using human rights as tool to ameliorate the suffering of the people just after obtaining his law degree and joining the Bar. Teaching is his occupation and working for human rights is his passion. Presently he is serving as an assistant professor of law in a state private university and pursuing his PhD work on the issue of “Protection of Human Rights Defenders in Contemporary India”.
Since foundation, MANAB is carrying on its human rights litigation before various human rights forum based on his pro bono legal services with several success stories in ensuring payment of compensation and government jobs to the legal heirs of the victims of human rights abuse as well as ensuring suitable legal actions againts the perpetrator state and non state actors. He is also offering voluntary services to carry out the activities of MANAB.
In March 2014, our founder has been awarded with Right to Information (RTI) award instituted by the Ministry of Personnel and Public Grievances, Government of India for his RTI activism which has benefited the public at large. He has received the aforesaid award from the Chief Information Commissioner of west Bengal State Information Commission in Kolkata.
